Fourth Carbon Budget announced by Government
Chris Huhne announces Government's proposals for fourth carbon budget
On the 17th May 2011 it was announced that, as part of the proposed Fourth Carbon Budget, reforms to the electricity market and incentives such as the Green Deal will be pushed through by the Government to increase energy efficiency and reduce emissions. The Fourth Carbon Budget proposals include setting a limit on carbon emissions of 1950 million tonnes for the five year period from 2023 to 2027, this would represent a 50% reduction from 1990 levels. It also aims to increase the energy efficiency of homes and businesses through measures such as the Green Deal, which is a incentive which has been proposed by the Government to provide grants for home and business owners to make their properties more energy efficient without any upfront costs.
